Respected Accredited Sports Dietitian, presenter, educator and author Julie Meek, has been passionate about raising bowel cancer awareness ever since her father was diagnosed with the disease.

"When Dad was diagnosed, the overwhelming feeling was of utter disbelief because he'd always eaten very healthily but, of course, there are other factors such as genetics and physical activity," Julie said.

"Awareness is crucial because it's estimated changes to physical activity and diet – such as boosting dietary fibre intake and reducing red meat and processed food consumption – could reduce the incidence of bowel cancer by up to 75 per cent," she added.

With nearly three decades of experience in public, sports and corporate nutrition, the Western Australian mother-of-three has helped thousands of people achieve personal success through eating well.

In addition to working as the Sports Dietitian to the Perth Glory A-League team and lecturing in Nutrition at Murdoch University in WA, Julie is a presenter on Channel Nine’s Our State on a Plate and is the resident Dietitian on 882AM 6PR radio in Perth, where she can be heard sharing her support for Bowel Cancer Australia and our annual campaigns such as Don’t Wait, Meat Free Week, Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and Red Apple Day, and Decembeard/hair

"As a Dietitian, eating healthy food is a big part of my life and I love being creative in the kitchen.  Having been personally affected by bowel cancer, I am very conscious of the importance of my family eating plenty of vegetables and less meat. For me Meat Free Week is the perfect opportunity to experiment and try out new recipes and make vegetables and legumes the stars of the show."
